![]() They wanted the serial number to get the right one and said it was not that common. Is there a style that pumps all the time and another style you turn off and on? On our automatic the pto is switched on with a electrical switch and can be engaged any time. Getting the right one is likely harder than installing it. Just because it has the cover on the side doesn't mean it has the drive gear in the trans. Have the SN# of your trans run by an Allison dealer. I have a T for a ht754, they are ridiculously expensive. ![]() One T on your oil cooler line to lube the pto, and bolt on and shim just like any other. You can get a regular style chelsea pto and dont need the clutched style. Posted 17:46 (#2074960 - in reply to #2074881) Subject: Re: anyone ever put a chelsea pto on a allison automatic? I would think the job could be done in 4 to 5 hours. ![]() ![]() This is not that hard but a does add a few more parts and time then a pto on a manual tranny. On the automatic they have to add a solenoid and oil lines to lube the pto as well as operated the clutch pack to engage pto. They're telling me on this auto trans installatoin there is way more stuff that has to be done etc. Iv'e installed air shift pto's on manual transmissions before and it was pretty straight forward by following intructions and checking gear backlash etc. Granted things a very busy right now at these sort of shops. They are throwing some interesting labor quotes ranging from $600-$700 to the one place wants over $1000 labor. Its an allison 2500 and it needs a pto put on it. If you are using a dial indicator and find your self close but still alittle loose, give it about 15 min and retighten. Then add your thick (or 2 thins) your done.īut normally since 01 transmission machining has gotten good enough 2 thick, 2 thin gets most of them. If you still have lash, remove a thin and recheck for zero lash. If it goes zero lash, add a thick and bolt it up. If you think it’s right, (has about the same lash on the transmission gear to idle gear as it does on the slide gear to idle gear). I usually start 2 thick & 2 thins, tighten 4 bolts, if the idler gear gets tight while tightening. You can do it without a dial indicator by Adding a stack of gaskets and removing thins till it’s out of lash the add a thick (or two thins) to land in the range. I’ve got a feel for it, but it’s pretty simple. I’ve mounted lots of PTO’s on ‘01 and newer trucks.
